BELLY UP TO THE BAR

I once knew this guy
Who just made me sick.
He always complained
'Cause he wasn't rich.
He said he had talents
That nobody knew.
I said, "Buddy, here's what to do:

You've gotta belly up to the bar.
Let the world know who you are.
If you think it's true,
Then take what you do
And belly up to the bar.
Nobody can make you a star.
If you want the fame,
Just take your good name
And belly up to the bar."

When I was sixteen,
I got in a funk.
I didn’t have money
For a pick-up truck.
I whined to my momma,
But she told me, "Son
Don't blame this on anyone.

You've gotta belly up to the bar.
If you don't like the way that things are,
Don't sit and complain,
Just make a change.
Belly up to the bar.
I know that you can go far.
It may sound weird,
But there's nothing to fear,
So belly up to the bar."

I once had a friend
Who felt misunderstood.
Everyone said
Her word was no good.
She changed her opinions
With every new friend.
I said, "Baby, this has to end.

You've gotta belly up to the bar.
You just gotta be who you are.
If you want to be heard,
Stick to your word
And belly up to the bar.
Let the world know who you are.
There's nothing to hide.
So take what's inside
And belly up to the bar."
